Re: Buried bare earth cables

cheers Alec,

Yes, totally get it, I don't think anything in this case is "not safe", just more of a professional interest I suppose. One of those "why are things done like that questions.

Re: Buried bare earth cables

Cheers Alec, informative answer as always. I am at risk of delving too deep into this, an likely over complicating things. But I like to understand how thing drawn on paper are actually compliant. :x So basically if in it is a installation that needs to comply with 3000, a bare buried earth originat...

Buried bare earth cables

Hi all, Quick question regarding buried earth grid cables (i.e under installation substations or customer owned tx's etc) or bare earth conductors around factory buildings with tee off's for structural earthing/bonding of steel structures and same applies to buried strip type electrodes in residenti...

Re: ESR 25 (d) vs AS/NZS3000:2007 7.8.2.1

Hi, I know this is a bit of an old thread, but I was wondering the exact same question regard 3012. How many construction sites or inspectors are actually doing periodic assessments on construction sites? I can say I don't think I have ever seen one done. I assume it is up to the construction site o...

Conduit vs Flexible conduit

Hi all, basic question.

Cat A wiring system, "heavy duty insulating conduit", can heavy duty flex conduit be used?

I see there a few standards operating in parallel atm with regards to conduits etc.

But if labelled HD and compiles with AS/NZS2053 then no issue? IE Marley solar conduit?

Cheers

Re: PEW and appliances/ Fittings

Hi Alec, Thanks for the reply - all makes sense up too '4 what standard should this be constructed to'? I guess where is that line for the SDoC? Using the example of the light above - If the one man band electrician makes up 1 light for a customer or 100 lights, technically he is selling them correc...

PEW and appliances/ Fittings

Hi team, I'll prefix this post that I'm feeling like I should know this but some reason I can't seem to comprehend it . Question sort of has two parts to it and originated from a job I was doing and was trying to see where it says you need to use 0.6/1Kv cable and I couldn't seem to find the in...

Re: Alternative to MEN in Mining operations - is it a part 1 solution?

Hi Alec, Thanks for the reply. Yeah, it makes sense being Part 1. I suppose in practice its not so simple making the whole installation HRW due to being non-MEN, just for the fact that in mining the use of alternative earth system is common place and there are lots of additional standard to ensure s...

Alternative to MEN in Mining operations - is it a part 1 solution?

Hi Guys, I have a question WRT alternative supply system to MEN (TNCS), in mining operation we often use the IT earth system. To be specific the current mine site the 11KV used on site is supplied via Isolation transformer (5.5MVA), the secondary side has a resistor connected between the star point ...

Re: Buss tie changeover switch main switchboard

Hey, Had this exact situation few months ago, but with three transformers, with three main switches, two bus ties between each "section" of the board all on to one switchboard. N + E bar common across all three boards, and it also had generator supply as well. Each incomer had a MEN link, meaning th...

Hey just out of curiosity what's the clause for the use of single insulated wiring? Trying to find it.

3000 3.10.1.1 Exceptions says single insulation is ok or is it 3012?

Old cable types

Hey Team, Was just a job the other day a saw some oldish TPS which was solid core 2.5mm primary insulation on the earth as well, not bare earth in sheath. What date did the standards prevented the uses of solid core cable other than 1mm? Just want to get a better upstanding of when types of cable we...

Re: VSD Cable - why multiple earths?

In a symmetrical earth design cable the earth conductors are located in the interces between the phase conductors. This ensures the distance between the phase conductors and earth is consistent. The resultant earth currents now cancel each other out minimizing the common mode current that can flow b...
