Schneider RCBO What does the yellow label mean?
On a Schneider RCBO is a yellow label above the bottom left terminal which states " When Line connected to bottom side " with a warning triangle. The text cannot be seen when the RCBO is mounted adjacent to other devices. What is the significance of this poorly translated text? The data sheet has no...

Sub-main to domestic shed: Minimum size?
A small shed on a carport requires power for 1 power point and 3 lights. I don't know if the owner prefers overhead or underground cable route yet for the 3m gap between the house and shed. Please can someone let me know if there is a minimum cable size to a sub-main? From 3.12.2.2 it looks like 6mm...

Is a top loading washing machine a water container?
I have to fit a switched socket for a top loading washing machine in the bathroom of a small 1 bed flat. Do the Damp Situation zones for water containers apply to the top loading washing machine? I assume not as normal use is with the lid closed, similar to the shower zone measurements are with the ...

I was recently asked to help solve lighting flicker on 1 circuit on a 12 year old (approx) home that has HPM iControl H2F2 for switching and dimming the lighting. I have not been to this home before and was told that the original halogen lamps had been replaced with LED and suitable transformers. I ...

Thank you very much AlecK for the considerable time you have spent helping me. Sorry I neglected to include additional information such as the main supply and loads. The property is a small church. Main supply is 25mm NS, approximately 30m long, mostly buried to the meter box then 0.6m of 16mm's to ...

Re: Repair manual to replace ceramic element, F&P oven
The job was easier than I thought. Steps which may help someone else: Remove the 2 screws at the top corners of the open oven. Close the door to save working around it. Remove the oven vent tube at the rear of the cooking surface. Remove the sheet metal panel at the back and the 4 additional screws ...

Re: Is a rocker switch able to installed horizontally?
Agree, it's an alternative but a last resort I think. It's a full 30 way DB (20m away) and I would not trust a din rail mounted contactor in there so it require an external box. The contactor coil would be energised full-time so will eventually fail. Unlikely, but if the contacts welded together the...

Re: Is a rocker switch able to installed horizontally?
Further to the topic - Schneider Customer Care replied that the PDL647 cannot be installed horizontally and referred to their page here: https://www.se.com/nz/en/faqs/FA172044/ . But there is no explanation. Interlec Australia Pty Ltd replied that yes, they can send me items. In the 45A 'cooker' ran...

Is a rocker switch able to installed horizontally?
This has been discussed a long time ago I think however I forgot the answer. Is the PDL647 (40A oven switch) able to be installed horizontally? I have a 90cm F&P oven with induction cook top to wire in to a renovation. Max load is 63A so am using the allowed 40A figure (Table C4). The splash back is...

Re: Testing for presence of a main earth when one can't be found
.... removing the requirement to label the MEC at swbd end was a backward step I didn't know it had been changed and have always put a main earth tag at the DB. The inspector I worked with also did this and I can see no reason, given the trivial cost, of not doing it. Thanks as always for your help...

Re: Testing for presence of a main earth when one can't be found
I found a main earth attached to the steel pipe feeding water to the concrete header tank. Long before I spotted it the house had been concerted to another type of water supply and the steel pipe had been cut on the 'ground' side of the earth clamp. Thus the main earth was clamped to about 1m of ste...
