Thanks so much for all that advice folks.
It reassuring to know some of the tests you recommend are the ones I planned, too!
ELZ on other circuits is good, but on the one in question just fails saying <200V

Hi folks, Hope you're all well! I'm not yet fully qualified, so forgive what's probably an obvious question! I was wondering if anyone could venture an opinion or advice on a weird issue I found testing an outlet that was disconnected by a previous electrician for 'some earthing problem'. It's being...

Earth stake directly into concrete
Hi folks, Looking for advice here - my boss tells me that an earth stake directly into concrete is non-compliant (residential), but looking at the rules I'm seeing '5.3.6.4 (a) This condition is deemed to be satifisfied by locating the electrode - (a) external to the building in ground that is expos...

Re: is it ok for apprentices to work alone?
Thanks Sneath,
That is very clear and helps confirm what I'd been thinking was right; in essence, a Supervisor can be at a distance, as long as they are confident that the apprentice can handle a task

is it ok for apprentices to work alone?
Hey folks
I'm not sure on the rules but is it alright for the supervisor to send an apprentice to work alone on jobs they can handle?

Re: Tips on hiring apprentice
Hi there, I'm looking to become an apprentice myself, so I've been doing a fair bit of research in this area! So if you have someone in mind already, Etco aren't the way to go (they're useless anyway, in my opinion and from what I've read). You'll need to get in touch with Skills and set up a traini...

Re: Introducing myself and looking for any advice
Hi folks, Really appreciate the advice - I'm still looking for an apprenticeship, but I've been busy making calls, placing flyers and scanning the job boards. Ran into one hiccup where I was told flat out that they were looking for someone younger, but c'est la vie. I've got my flyer up in half a do...

Re: Increasing Userbase
So you'll want pretty much how you'd explain it to someone - keep it conversational and don't try to stuff keywords in. Keywords aren't used anymore. It'd be probably something like 'A forum for New Zealand's Electrical professionals to discuss everything in the industry, share tips and knowledge, a...

Re: Electricity Act 1992, 76,77, Exemption for work done under supervision
A supervised person is anybody competent who is carrying out PEW whilst supervised - their works needs to be tested, certified and connected by a registered and practising electrician (usually the supervisor). They do not need to be a trainee. This might cover, for example, if a different tradie on ...

Re: Increasing Userbase
I believe you need to go the overall_header html page in the forum's installation and manually add in your meta title and description tags (can explain in more detail if you like). You can also add in the tag to allow google search console to track data so you can request indexing and see where you'...

Re: Introducing myself and looking for any advice
Hey thanks for the info :D I'll need to update the CV a bit - didn't originally include that I come equipped with tools and ppe. The pre-trade was pretty thorough. We covered safety and PPE, and we got our sitesafe and first aid cards, which I thought was cool. I got very little on-job experience pr...

Re: Importing old forums
Hi folks, I'm a bit rusty but I used to work on PHPbb forums back in the day. I mostly just made them look pretty and did admin stuff, but I know that importing the entire history of one board into another is possible. I believe you need access to the original board's hosting, however, so that you c...

Introducing myself and looking for any advice
Hi folks, Hope this is an okay place to post this, and nobody minds - seems like the right place to introduce myself! My name is Ben and, prior to lockdown, I was at WelTec doing a pre-trade course. As fortune would have it my class sat our final exam literally 4 days before it was announced the sch...
