Re: Support & fixing of cables 3.9.3.3

I agree that double insulation of cables isn’t going to protect anyone from standing on it - But I was merely trying to poke holes in the wording “mechanical characteristics of the wiring system” is deemed an appropriate measure to minimise mechanical damage. Location was the other one which you can...

Re: Support & fixing of cables 3.9.3.3

Thanks & correct me if I’m wrong - 3.3.2.6 has an asterix next to it which means it’s a new amendment in version 2018 so therefore hasn’t come into force yet? Also even if it has the wording of 3.3.2.6 is extremely vague & highly open to interpretation as per the paste & copy below.... You could say...

Support & fixing of cables 3.9.3.3

Debating this rule with a co-worker today & looking at other forums it’s a grey area for some too...hopefully we can settle this once & for all! Specifically looking at 3.9.3.3 wiring systems likely to be disturbed...copied as below. Wiring systems installed in the following locations are deemed lik...

Re: Testing for presence of a main earth when one can't be found

Slightly off topic - but couple of years ago I did a switchboard & POE upgrade - went looking for the main earth & found that a rod had just been stuck in the ground & the new 6mm main earth had been run out but never connected - just hanging around a few metres away - apparently a licensed sparky h...

Re: Testing for presence of a main earth when one can't be found

Yeah it’s A strange one to get rid of considering it’s such a simple task & adding no cost to the job - I was always taught both ends & will continue to do so : )

Re: Testing for presence of a main earth when one can't be found

Thanks. Yeah like Doug said I was more meaning if it was fairly obvious which Wire was the main earth at switchboard & say you had already traced the EBC. I thought that if you could clamp it with an earth leakage tester & get a reading then it would at least show something was connected to earth no...

Testing for presence of a main earth when one can't be found

Just wondering what methods everyone is using for testing for presence of a main earth should one be unable to be sighted. From my understanding the fact that the main earth & the neutral run in parallel - that should mean that there should be some sort of current flowing through the main earth if o...

Re: Oven install

Like for like as it complied when was originally installed - assuming for arguments sake it was a 32A fuse & 6mm the entire length of the run.

Oven install

Hi guys - so glad there is now a new forum, I had been missing the old one! Long story short I have a client who purchased a freestanding oven from trademe - the seller also installed it. Turns out the guy wasn’t licensed (he f’d it up & appliance kept blowing the fuse to the point it now doesn’t op...
