Unaccessible joints within ceiling space.
While I always avoid joints in TPS cable runs, I have a situation where extending an existing cable with a joint is unavoidable without major building disruption. My concern is this connection will be sealed in the ceiling space and will be unaccessible in the future. It's a low current 1mm2 lightin...

Heated Towel Rail Timer
Installing a heated towel rail in a bathroom upgrade. I would normally classify these as a "room heater" as stated in section 4.9 NZS3000 and supply it with a functional switch (active switching only), mounted by the towel rail. The isolation function required by 4.9.2 I've always taken as the switc...

Re: IEC14 to three pin socket lead
Thanks Alex, my thoughts exactly. Disappointed with the supplier, as they are reputable and should have known better.

IEC14 to three pin socket lead
Just after a reality check here; I'm installing a power distribution unit for an IT installation. The power distribution unit has eight remotely switched C13 output panel sockets which are protected via a 10A circuit breaker internal to the distribution unit. I ordered a batch of 1 meter extension c...

Re: Loop impedance test results
If you are doing a non-powered test using method 8.3.9.3 (a) I read Table 8.2 with a C breaker as only allowing 1.22 ohms.

Re: Rangehoods and Max Demand
"informative" vs "normative", subtle distinction to look out for in future . Thanks.

Rangehoods and Max Demand
Probably being a bit pedantic, but I have usually connected range hoods via a socket outlet at least 2.3m high onto a 1mm lighting point, but on reading the maximum demand notes in Appendix C realise this may no longer a practical option. Note "f" on Table C8 allows a socket outlet on a 1mm as long ...

Re: Gas Range Conversion
The existing cable is run under floor below already existing Expol BTI, so unless they blow insulation into an internal wall I'm ok (but as you state I'm ok either way). Re RCD requirement, for the minimal cost the safety improvement makes me feel happier anyway so all good. Really appreciated your ...

Re: Gas Range Conversion
Thank you for the in-depth answer Alec. Things have got a little messy now as I've pulled the cabinets out and the 4mm has been eaten by rats, hence I'm replacing from switch to oven socket anyway. So my approach forward will be; 1/ Leave existing 6mm from board to switch in place. 2/ Replace tail f...

Gas Range Conversion
Retrofitting an existing wall oven and hob with a replacement range that has gas hob (no electric elements) and combined electric oven. Existing setup uses a 6mm from board and splits into two 4mm for the original hob and oven. Referring to 4.18.1.3(b) I intend placing a 15A socket behind the range ...
