Re: Oven replacement - RCD protection of socket outlet?
Sorry to hijack this thread, I have a question with the same title. I have been asked to replaced an existing range, which currently does not have any sockets outlets inbuilt with a range that has two. Do I need to RCD protect the range circuit due to this or is it not required due to the range bein...

Transportable homes
After reading 3001, am I right in thinking that an a transportable office can be wired using 7 strand 1.5mm tps, with a single circuit feeding all lighting and power points protected by a single 16A RCBO which is also the main switch?

Re: Clause 2.5.3.3
Thanks AlecK. I always thought HRC fuses provided short circuit protection, why would it not is this case?

Clause 2.5.3.3
Evening all. Just having a read of clause 2.5.3.3, alternative positioning of overload protection. Would an example of this be a 20A RCBO in a switchboard being feed from the main switch using 2.5mm cable? Even though the mains is fused at 63A, the 20A RCBO does not exceed the current carrying capac...

Re: Testing after switchboard upgrade
Hi Doug,
The test was between A+N TO E. The result was slightly above 0ohm so probably just not low enough to trip the RCD.
Thanks for you answer, I have always carried out all the testes within section 8, hence the IR test.

Testing after switchboard upgrade
Hey guys, Sorry for the long intro to the question. I upgraded a domestic switchboard recently, including adding RCD protection to power and lighting circuits. During the upgrade I carried an IR test on each sub circuit, with one power circuit giving a failed 0Mohm result. I suspected that an applia...

Protective device disconnection times
Merry Christmas everyone. 1.5.5.3 stated that subcircuits supplying fixed equipment, for example a wall oven has a maximum disconnection time of 5 seconds. In most residential situations, a wall oven and other fixed equipment will be protected by a Type C MCB and no RCD. In regards to testing, 8.3.5...

Adding battery to solar.
Hey guys. I have a grid tied solar setup and we are looking at adding a battery bank to store the excess power being generated during the day. I don't have much experience in solar. Is there a document or link that anyone may have that shows how the battery setup should be connected to the existing ...

Re: RCD in old switchboard
Thanks for the info AlecK. The tradesmen at my work have only done new builds so they are unable to answer my questions regarding older installations. Just one more quick question regarding older imperial size cables, is there a way to tell the size of them as I was unable to find any marking on the...

I have been told in that there is a potential that ceramic fuse holder based may not rated for the subcircuit PSCC. Not sure if there’s any truth to it by my thinking is that if I’m already having to install an enclosure, then Installing an RCBO is just as easy.

RCD in old switchboard
Hi, The boss is sending me to a job which will consist of upgrading to RCD protection in an old black panel switchboard for two power circuits. Usually I would retrofit an enclosure and use RCBO's however I have been asked to use an RCCB then feed into the original fuse holders and use suitably rate...
