Recessed downlights not permitted near loose fill insulation
Most, if not all, recessed downlights I install regardless of being IC-F or IC-4 rating do not permit being installed anywhere near loose fill insulation Usually I just scoop it out and clear at least 50mm around the downlight cutout on accordance with Figure 4.7 C I've just read 4.5.2.3.3 "(e) Wher...

Sorry, still not 100% in what the 2 different situations each clause are trying to get at
It's more 3.9.4.3 that's throwing me off

Cable Protection 50mm 3.9.4.2 vs 3.9.4.3.2
The first says it's in regards to wiring systems near building surfaces and says protect via 3.9.4.4 if "50 mm from the surface of a wall, floor, ceiling or roof" The second is under wall or roof lining and says protect via 3.9.4.4 "within 50 mm from the face of the supporting member to which the li...

Re: Number of Main Switches
Well I came here to make an inquiry on this very requirement. Moved house just before the lockdown and found that there are 2x Main Switches (both labelled as such) in the house. Me thinks an email to the contactor is in order. Provided this was done under current rules, wouldn't 2.3.3.4 (b) call f...

Re: Circuit Identification
Basically what I'm wanting to know is do you consider a marking on the cable (such as a heat shrink label) directly by the terminal sufficient to meet this clause or must the actual terminal be marked?

Re: Type S RCD Main Switch
I see, so the Type S RCD could provide an option that can be provided to a whole installation where as AFDDs are more suited to individual subcircuits
Does anyone know if this clause comes as an AS/NZS thing or is it taken from the IEC standard that 3000 is based on?

Re: Type S RCD Main Switch
So I understand this solution is for fire protection mainly and is not one that is commonly used by the sounds of it. Anyone have any idea how they stack up vs AFDDs? Is one better suited for the purpose? Would using them in conjunction provide even better protection or would one effectively make th...

2.5.7.2.3 Discrimination examples (b) and (c)
"Discrimination on overload and instantaneous operation may be deemed to be provided when C1 ≥ 2 × C2, e.g. C1 curve 63 A with C2 curve 32 A (see Figures 2.11 and 2.12.)" This says a 63A with a 32A but using the method of calculation 2*32=64 so a 63A MCB is not ≥ a 32A MCB "(A) the overload setting ...

Interesting
I can understand how those requirements may not be met in separate cables but isn't that more due to the cable runs could end up at different lengths/routes etc?
If they were in the same cable sheath like Doug suggested would that almost guarantee those conditions be met?

Anyone have a copy of this standard? Not available via EWRB but I'd love to have a wee look over it, my curiosity isn't worth dropping the $$$ on it though
Did anyone in NZ ever work to this standard or was it an Australian thing more so?
