Re: Earthing an Awning

I'm making assumptions here but I'm thinking the awning probably needs earthing and not bonding but feel free to correct me If this is the case you can go as small as a 2.5mm2 earth depending on size of active conductors that pose a risk Is it the downlights in the awning that present a risk? I'm assuming you are talking about bonding the metalwork of awing? if so the minimum bonding earth is 4mm, with a maximum reading of 0.5ohm (when you test the bonding to the switchboard) Even if you were to use the earth from the light circuit (which you shouldn't) I doubt you could achieve the mini...

Apply the "under normal operating conditions" test, would you expect splashes of water to go over the edges and down the gap? if so then you would be justified in declining to connect it up until this issue has been sorted as it would not be electrically safe.

Looking at the results he got where 1.35 ohm was a pass and 2.15 was a fail, looking at table 8.1 it could be a 20A MCB - C Curve, 1.53 is the maximum loop, this increases to 1.92 for a 16A MCB.

My bet would be 2.5mm2 on a 20A MCB, but yes good to know some more details
