AS/NZS 3000:2007 - 3.9.4.4 (a)
I've come across some 'un-tradesman like' wiring in a new house that I'm pre-wiring. The Solar installers have installed their PV Panels and have run 2 DC Strings (which are also hanging out unterminated through a flush box LIVE - 270VDC on each String, but thats a seperate issue) in a HD-T Solar Fl...

Re: 5033:2012 4.4.1.5 (d) Location of means of isolation for servicing
Does 4.4.1.5 (d) (i) also include the 'unplugging' of an MC4 connector within the string / array as a form of Isolation? (as long as the other requirements are meet?)
It would be nice if the standard was more specific in terms of Disconnection requirements.

AS/NZS 3000:2007 4.10 (Heating Cables) + NZS6110
Hi all, Im just having a lock down read in reference to Underfloor heating. Does 4.10 (Heating Cables) also include Under Tile Heating? Im guessing it does as its a Cable that is made / installed to produce heat, but can't find any definitions to what is classed as a Heating Cable. 4.10.5 says All h...

Restricted Locations - 2.9.2.5 (c)
Hi, I have a question about 2.9.2.5 (c). - Restricted Locations of Switchboards (Cupboards). - When does a cupboard turn into a room? Is there a definition of the dimensions that equate to what a Cupboard is? I have a customer who is building a new house that wants his Main SwitchBoard in a Room, th...

Thanks Jamie and Alec - I don't do Solar but Im Setting up a system at the workshop and trying to get my head around the relevant Standards. In this case Its a Enpahse Micro Inverter System. Its 1 Micro Inverter per PV Module - No Hazardous Voltages are present on the DC side when disconnected (ELV)...

Section 4.5 - 4777.1-2016
I have a question about section 4.5 in 4777.1-2016.(I know 4777.1-2016 is not sited in the regs, but I can't find the 2005 version). 4.5 States that an an Isolation device shall be provided between any energy source and the Inverter. Therefore does that mean that PV installations with Micro Inverter...

AS/NZS 3012/2019+A1 BTS SwitchBoards
Hi, Im just having a read through 3012:2019 to preempt some of the proposed changes coming for Domestic Construction SwitchBoards (BTS). J3 (h) & (i) are self explanatory (Board must be 1200mm from ground and fixed into position with 2 stays) BUT is the 3.0m pole (for underground mains) mandatory or...

Re: 5.6.2.6.4 Bonding Connector Connection Point (For Pools)
Thanks again guys, I’ll keep the connection point within the pool area / garden for that very reason. Plans always change during the build. Cheers for the link as well, I’ll pass it on to my rep and see if they can find anything local What I think I’ll end up doing is - connect bond cable onto start...

5.6.2.6.4 Bonding Connector Connection Point (For Pools)
Hi, I've got a mates Pool to wire up, (currently in construction) with a filled Cinder Block Structure. I'm going to bond a few of the Starter bars in the concrete footing of the pool that the Cinder Block will sit on, back to the connection point. What do most people use as the bond connection poin...

ESR 6A - Low Risk Work
My Question is about if this is deemed as low risk OR General Work (Requires ESC or CoC). Replacing Hi Bay lights in a work shop which involves replacing existing ceiling roses with 10A Surface Sockets so the new Hi-Bays can plug in. On first thought I was assuming Low Risk (ESC), but after reading ...

Re: Pool Equipment Bonding 5.6.2.6.1 (b)
Thanks AlecK. Your'e right. If you take the 'not' out of the clause, then it totally make sense that all DI equipment must be bonded. But (to me) having the 'not' in the clause makes it sound like DI equipment doesn't need bonding because all live parts are separated by DI, therefore doesn't require...

Yeah your right, its a pretty cramped set up, but he will just have to move / alter an area to fix a little surface board somewhere.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

Re: Pool Equipment Bonding 5.6.2.6.1 (b)
Ok Im still a bit confused - I can't see the exception in my standards, not that it matters. The class 1 appliance already being earthed negates the need for a seperate bond cable, that makes sense. I can also understand the need for a bond onto conductive surfaces that are in the same system as Ear...

Pool Equipment Bonding 5.6.2.6.1 (b)
Im suffering a bit of Brain Fog this morning - but clause 5.6.2.6.1(b) in 3000 has me a bit stumped. "The following shall to be epuipotentially bonded (b) Any exposed conductive parts of the electrical equipment that are not separated from live parts by double insulation and that are in contact with...

Re: WoEF - No Overload Protection in Caravan
Thanks guys. I've told the owner he will need to get an Electrician to install a SwitchBoard with at least a 16A RCBO. Which leads to the next issue, there is basically nowhere where the switchboard will comply. There is nowhere that isn't obstructed by fixed furniture etc. The existing RCD Power po...

WoEF - No Overload Protection in Caravan
I carried out a WoEF on a Caravan this morning. Older Toyota Hiace Van, 16A Inlet, 1x PDL RCD Power Point and 1x 10A Double Power Point. However there was no SwitchBoard and therefore no Overload Protection. An RCD Power point was down stream from the 16A inlet, and another Double power point was do...

Hi, Im not sure if this is the right forum for this post? Anyway, Im just wondering what you guys do when carrying out CoVs for installations that have been disconnected greater than 6 months. Earth Electrode with NO MEN Link
Hi, Sorry for the long winded explanation but I had a job today that I livened up a new distribution board (non domestic) for testing which had a high earth fault loop test of 43ohms. I tested the distribution board that feed the new board which was 38 ohms. Then tested the MEN board that feed the f...
