Re: Loop impedance test results
the way to fix it is :- first off check that all the terminations are secure as a loose connection will give a bad test, then :- Change to a B type trip curve MCB or reduce the circuit breaker size, for example a 20A circuit breaker, reduce to 16A, you may need to go down 2 sizes or Upgrade the size...

Design a favicon
DougP has suggested that we implement a favicon - you know the little symbol that comes up in your web browser next to the URL that symbolizes the web site. Good idea Doug, now we just need some smart people to come up with a design, lots of smart people here, so people put your brains in to gear an...

2.3.3.2 says that domestic installations shall be provided with not more than one main switch for (a) each separately metered supply or (b) where there is more than one separately controlled supply from meter, a main switch for each of the separately controlled supplies. So for a domestic installati...

Re: Type S RCD Main Switch
Never used one, but from what I understand they are usually rated for 100mA and suited towards the protection against fire. They are not suitable for personal protection (like the A, B, II type) as they have a built in time delay to allow for nuisance tripping.

Re: Undergrounding of overhead lines
Greg, how do you go about getting fiber ducting free of charge from the wholesalers? Walk in to your regular wholesaler and ask, they usually have them. I have got them from JA Russell, Ideal and Active, depending on demand they may have to order in. They should also have available the indoor fiber...

PEW and Solar
At what point does work on PV (Solar) become PEW, disregarding any inverter that may be attached to the PV array.
A couple of examples,
1) a PV array on a house charging a bank or batteries.
2) A PV array on a camper van

Can conductors within a multi core cable smaller than 4mm², be used in parallel? Such as a 2.5mm² 4c+e used with two sets of parallel conductors. 3.4.3 says "Current-carrying capacities for circuits comprising parallel multi-core cables or groups of single-core cables...." To me, that means paralle...

Re: Undergrounding of overhead lines
Thanks Alec, you're right about "there is a main earthing system".
I've seen plenty of these water pipe main earths, usually a ratty bit of bare earth - around 2.5mm (but the old imperial size), Our policy when doing ohug's is if it is a water pipe style earth, to upgrade it.

Re: Measuring Max Demand
There are a couple of ways to work this out. From Table C2 in AS/NZS3000:2007 or by measurement, you could do some load checks throughout the day to get an indication on the loading, or hire a test instrument (Tech Rentals for example) and hook it up and let it run for a week and from those readings...
