FRUUGO electrical fittings

Post by LEB »

Hi there, has anyone ever come across homeowners importing appliances ie, lights , ceilings fans from the online website Fruugo?
I've done some research on the site and its all a little suss. The homeowner in this case has purchased ceiling fan/light fittings for their home and want us to install. Obviously without an sdoc we won't be installing

Correct to be cautious, even suspicious of items from non-standard sources.

But SDoCs are not required in order for fittings to be installed; ESR 83 relates only to sale / supply, in NZ, of DMRAs.
For an installer, an SDoC can be relied on when cetifying; but isn't actually required before installing.

So the first question is whether these are DMRAs;
and the second question is whether these fittings are being offered for dale / supply "in NZ" .

I believe the fittings described are DMRAs under at least one classification (light fittings).
And they're offered on a ".nz" website; so clearly offered "in NZ".
(It's unclear whether overseas websites that can be accessed from NZ count)
Which means the supplier should have an SDoC for them.

What I would be very careful of is that if these units are to be recessed into ceiling, then they are recessed luminaires and must have correct classification as per clause 4.5
