Hi there, looking for some advice regarding CoC completion following a mod to an industrial food tray sealer.

Called to a job on a Chinese made rotary food tray sealer with a smell of burning. Single phase machine, pretty small at 4A max draw. Turns out main control board had burnt out, is well beyond repair with no spares and no supplier/ importer back-up. To bring it back to life I replaced the toasted relay style board with a Siemens Logo mini PLC along with a “Piltz” style relay to meet our safety standards. All cabling also replaced as original non compliant wrt sizing and colour.

Now for the question; on the CoC form it asks whether a “certified design” has been used. I have never filled in this box before and I’m wondering whether the work undertaken by me is a “design” and if it is, am I the certifier?

the food tray sealer is an appliance, not part of the installation. No certified design needed. An ESC would be required to confirm it's electrical safety

Unless it's plugged in; in which case ESC not needed.
ESCs are for things - from equipment (accessories, appliances, etc) up to part or even complete installations - being connected to supply.
Certainly no CoC needed; CoCs are for PEW done on installations.

I get the logic regarding this equipment being an appliance , but I must admit that given that I have pretty much rewired the whole thing I’m surprised that only an ESC is required.
