AS/NZS 3000:2007 Superseded?
I was just looking through standards website for AS/NZS 3000 and saw version 2007 has now been superseded by 2018. I must have missed the memo.
So is AS/NZS 3000:2018 now current?

Re: AS/NZS 3000:2007 Superseded?
2018 is the newest version, but the ESR's cite the 2007 Version, it's good practice to use the 2018 version but there are a few instances where 2018 contradicts 2007, in those cases 2007 should be used.

...in those cases 2007 MUST be used.
A Standard is listed (by SNZ / SA) as "superseded" as soon as a new edition is published.
which simply alerts people to the fact that a later version exists.
Standards are only enforceable by being cited in law (Acts & Regulations).
For NZ , electrical installation Standards are cited in Schedule 2 of ESRs; including edition date and any Amendments
and sometimes additional changes made in the citation (eg currently parts of "3000" , "5033" , & "3002" are changed in their citations)
In most States of Oz, citations are not detailed down to edition; and Amendments / Revisions of Standards come into force 6 months after publication.

Has there been any update on when the changes may happen? We are way past the original estimates.
Re: AS/NZS 3000:2007 Superseded?
I suspect that some within MBIE don't see it as a priority.
Perhaps we aren't electrocuting enough people to justify the cost?
But nothing new; we didn't adopt the 2007 edition until 2010.

Re: AS/NZS 3000:2007 Superseded?
Yowzer, that's nuts. Its been 10 years and there's a lot of regs that have been improved. Is there any group like the NZIE who are lobbying the MBIE/EWRB for a change?
Re: AS/NZS 3000:2007 Superseded?
My understanding is that all industry orgs have repeatedly sought & supported the updating of citations.
3years ago MasterElectricians put a lot of effort into providing a nationwide roadshow covering changes in 2018 edition of "3000"; in expectation that the ESRs amendment would happen as previously announced.
It's entirely an Energy Safety matter; EWRB have no part in deciding these things as their job is licencing & competence.
But Energy Safety is now just one wee part within Worksafe; and Worksafe is just one wee part of MBIE.
And changing Regulations has to be signed-off by Government; it doesn't just happen within the relevant department.
At Government level; things haven't been "normal" for some time; there have been some other things going on in the country that have clearly had priority.
While updating the citations would bring some safety improvements and make our lives a bit easier; it doesn't really rate as urgent compared with Covid 19

Hi,
Sorry it is not good practice to use the 2018 version. a person would in fact commit an offence for not using the 2007 version.
While the 2007 version is cited for use, it is the only version that can be used.
You could if you wished, do a clause by clause assessment on 2018 vs 2007 and find the areas where 2018 is 'safer' then 2007 and then use a certified design to allow the use of these safer provisions, but you would be hard pressed to justify the less safe provisions like the downlight standard.
Your COC would still need to reference the 2007 version with your certified design attached etc.

Unfortunately its not an Energy Safety matter anymore - this is where the problem lies, it is completely up to MBIE policy now and you are right, they have 'higher priority' things to do.
WorkSafe does not have the authority from the government to do the policy work for legislation. Only MBIE has this authority.
Also WorkSafe is not a part of MBIE, it is a standalone entity.
