power points under eves

Recently I have seen several houses with IP53 power points mounted under the house eves with the mounting block that would normally be attached to the wall screwed to the eves.

Technically its out of the rain so would comply however once you think about people waterblast and wash down the outside of the house the chance of someone spraying water directly into the outlet it pretty high, plus you cant use the drain holes in the mounting block.
Personally I wouldnt do it but im just wondering what everyone else thinks

3000:2018 has a 30deg angle zone under an overhang, where no IP rating is required. Cleaning/waterblasting isn't taken into consideration.
3000:2018A1 4.1.3 & Fig 4.1

I suppose also Nathan you cant stop people and their actions, if someone wants to waterblast a power outlet you cant stop them

Thanks thats interesting.
So in theory they could be a normal PDL 692 power point on a mounting block in that case which would probably look better.
Cheers guys sounds like its one of those things that doesnt feel right but complies

You can only account for "normal" conditions, pretty much any socket, IP53 or IP56 isn't going to standup to been water blasted.

Why even use a mounting block? Just cut a hole in the hardy board and put it in a flush box.

You can't control stupid.
Even duct tape doesn't fix that
