Importing old forums
Hi everybody,
I have a copy from the wayback machine of the electricalforum.co.nz and would like to get this in to these forums, anyone know how to do this?

Re: Importing old forums
Not too sure about importing directly, it might have to be done manually one post at a time. I was looking through some of the old stuff yesterday, and there is certainly some (maybe 10%?) of posts that would be well worth bringing over.
But firstly, is it possible to split the forum into subjects? Like earthing & bonding, main switchboards, Metering & Network related, etc etc? Then we could each bring over some old posts into each topic as we have time or interest?
Presumably this is an admin thing? (subject grouping).
Also, you might want to turn off post approval for a while, and see how it goes.
Thanks
Doug

Re: Importing old forums
We will play the wait and see game, if spam becomes a problem i'll place posting approvals on new joiners.
As for the spell check, not sure where that is set up

Re: Importing old forums
I've just started importing a few interesting topics from the old forum. I'll do some more as time permits and more topics are added by Greg.

Re: Importing old forums
Hi folks,
I'm a bit rusty but I used to work on PHPbb forums back in the day. I mostly just made them look pretty and did admin stuff, but I know that importing the entire history of one board into another is possible.
I believe you need access to the original board's hosting, however, so that you can export its posts/topics etc as an SQL database which you then upload to the new board's hosting, import using phpMyAdmin and that should be you done.

Re: Importing old forums
we don't have access to the SQL database of the old forums, the only access we have is via the wayback machine which is basically a snapshot of the website mid jan this year.
