SwicthBoard sealing

Post by greesleeve »

Saw an interesting post over on the sparkies facebook page re sealing gaps in a switchboard. Got me thinking. If we are replacing an old switchboard what are the sealing requirements. Haven't been in the game that long but what were the old requirements and if we are replacing do we comply with what was required at the time or 2.9.7 now. Can't say I have seen many switchboards with sealant. They also mention 25% space on new installs, can't say I have heard of that. Any thoughts? Thanks.

The requirement to seal cable entries into switchboards [2.9.7] applies when installing a new switchboard, and also when installing cables to an existing switchboard.
It's not retrospective; and doesn't apply for replacement.
That said, only a drongo wouldn't do it for replacement.

There is no rule about spare space ; but again only a drongo would fit a swbd that didn't allow for some further devices / circuits to be added.
It's about being fit for purpose.
