Hi Chaps,

A mate of mine is doing a reroof in acukland central and wants to know can the mains be moved. To me it doesn't look like there will be enough clearance over the driveway to mount in soffit. From table 3.8 I get 4.6m. Any other solutions apart from underground?

I have added the pics he gave me.

Thanks.

That's probably right.
Where it is now, doesn't comply with the current rules either, but it will be allowed to remain (as long as it complied with the rules when it was built - which it probably did).

But if you change anything, it will have to comply with the current rules.

Hi AlecK, what sort of bracket?

The cable comes from a pole two driveways away so can imagine be a major to get Vector to go underground.

Simplest option is to replace rotten wood I guess.

I went to the property today and switchboard is very dated so the owner has given me the go ahead to replace it. Nice and easy when roofers are there.

A basic L-shape, with horizontal leg fixed upwards into soffit and vertical rising outside the guttering usually does the trick.
Make the upwards leg long enough to allow for sag in the line.
May need packer on the soffit due to facia projecting down a bit.
Only needs a hole at top to attach a N/S tie; run the cable down to connection box on soffit.
Galv best but painted OK.

There's no (ESRs) requirement to move it
Replacing a conductor -including a mains conductor - is maintenance, so original rules apply.
That covers replacing open-pair aerials with N/S; provided you follow the original route .
If you change the route, then it's an alteration and current rules apply.

It may also be network policy / rules that aerial trespass must not be renewed without an easement
If so, that would affect whatever you do; other than a simple safety isolation

This one is about a metre high. There's basically nothing available off the shelf in NZ, so custom made is probably the only option.
This one is in a high wind zone, and the mains go up to the pole which is about 10m height difference, so it has a stainless backstay wire and fixed stay as well.
Custom made, hot dip galv, then painted. Cost about $500 all up.
