Is a top loading washing machine a water container?

Post by Mazdaman »

I have to fit a switched socket for a top loading washing machine in the bathroom of a small 1 bed flat. Do the Damp Situation zones for water containers apply to the top loading washing machine?

I assume not as normal use is with the lid closed, similar to the shower zone measurements are with the door / curtain closed and the flexible hose shower head in the holding bracket. Also, the washing machine is not a 'fixed water container'.

There is no laundry tub but the machine will be next to a small vanity basin so the clause 6.2.2.2 (b) will apply there.

Thank you.

Correct a washing machine is not a 'fixed water container" and creates no damp situation zones.
